Part Time Resident Caretaker(s)

Bowen Court, Bowen Island Seniors’ Housing Cooperative, seeks a part time caretaker or a couple to maintain its facilities:
18 household units, and a multi-purpose community hall
Live in a private, affordable, newly-renovated two-bedroom suite with patio and view.

Responsibilities include:

Maintenance:

  1. Ensures all facilities, appliances, fixtures, fire and security apparatus are in operational order.
  2. Responds quickly to potential emergencies as plumbing, heating, electrical etc.
  3. Repairs and upgrades all facilities and prepares units for new members.
  4. Regular cleaning of the hall’s rooms used by members and income-generating groups.
  5. Monitors and maintains sewage treatment plant, within own scope and abilities.
  6. Identifies and oversees local specialized contractors and services to complete projects.

Grounds:

  1. Ensures drive, walks, and steps are clear including de-icing and snow removal.
  2. Mows lawns and prunes shrubs.
  3. Provides machinery maintenance for mower, weed whacker, wheelbarrow etc.

Administration and Logistics:

  1. Reports monthly on work done, hours worked and budget requirements.
  2. Keeps receipts, invoices, and other financial records.
  3. Maintains system inventories of the Court’s tools, equipment, janitorial stock supplies and facilities inspections and history of repairs to each unit.

Reporting:
The caretaker(s) are supervised by the Maintenance Committee, report to the Board and work with other commitees.


Caretaker(s) Assets:
Good interpersonal and problem solving skills, physically fit, own a reliable vehicle, computer literacy, painting skills, have a familiarity with Bowen Island trades and services; fire safety training.


Negotiable Contract:
The contract will be negotiated based on approximately 50 hours of monthly work, taking into account work schedule, a competitive wage, time off, and the caretaker(s) suite.
